A scenic trail winds along the North Shore Channel and extends the entire length of the neighborhood. It is safe to say that, given all the open green space, North Park is one of the most peaceful communities on the North Side. In fact, it is known as a quiet residential area with neatly kept single-family homes and a sleepy atmosphere - especially in the summer when school is out. Like so many Chicago neighborhoods, North Park students are served by Chicago Public Schools, a premier urban school district serving nearly 440,000 students in grades K- through 12. North Park University was established in 1891 and “Old Main,” a three-story brick Georgian revival building with a distinctive cupola, is the campus centerpiece. Northeastern Illinois University is also located in North Park.
